On the border of Surrey and London, based in the beautiful, leafy village of Claygate in Surrey, Barker Martial Arts (BMA) is in Claygate Martial Arts Centre.

Teaching traditional Korean martial arts in Claygate since 2007, the Centre is well attended and has a café and Wi-Fi on site.

martial arts weaponry – an introduction to spinning and striking techniques using foam Jool Bong (the Korean word for nunchucks), swords, staffs and indoor sucker archery (using traditional Korean grip and stances).

explore the mental aspects of martial arts – including strategy, focus, and mental resilience. Participants engage in activities such as memory games, problem-solving challenges, and concentration exercises.
martial arts traditional forms (katas) – These focus on the artistry and performance aspects of forms and the emphasis will be on precision, timing, and expressive movements.

Personalise Your Experience

self-defence – learn and practice self-defence and falling techniques.
martial arts fitness – participants will not only get a warrior cardio workout but also spend time learning and perfecting kicking and striking skills.
sparring – Safe touch contact sparring drills and matches using foam sparring equipment.

Note: participants must have their own mouthguard to take part in sparring. We sell these at the centre and we can facilitate purchase in advance.

Onsite Information

We have a café away from the mats, and full IT capabilities.

We are able to provide refreshments and breakfast/lunch for the day.

If you prefer to go off site for lunch there are restaurants and pubs in close proximity.

Finding us

Easy to reach, Claygate is a main line train station from London Waterloo (30 minutes from London to Claygate), the K3 bus stops directly outside and BMA is just off the A3 (M25 junction 10) and has parking available too.

If you are looking for accommodation, the Foley Pub and Hotel, a historic 16th century pub with 17 rooms, is just a few minutes walk.
