Black Belt Candidates (Dahn Bo Nim – DBN)

After achieving DBN, you will continue to test quarterly at club testings, achieving Black Stripes at each testing if successful.

You should attend your first  National Testing after a minimum of one year of regular training as a DBN and 3/4 Black Stripes.

After your first National Testing, you will continue to test quarterly at Club Testings and National Testings for a minimum of one further year, including 3 National Testings, totalling a minimum of 7/8 Black Stripes, before promoting to Black Belt.

Promotion to 1st Dahn Black Belt (GYUM SON NIM – GSN) requires competency of the syllabus and as such there is no maximum number of tests; the above is just an example.

Your instructor will inform you when you are being recommended to promote; this may well be after other DBNs who have less Black Stripes than you.
